When one hears of breast enhancement, the immediate thought is of plastic surgery — using implants of either silicone or saline to enhance the size of the breasts. And while this is true, there are now new procedures that can utilize the person’s own body fat, extracted from other areas, to increase the breast size. This could give a more natural feel, and can have less complications than using synthetic implants. However, breast enhancement embodies more than just surgery.

Non-surgical options are also available, such as push-up bras, padded bras, even silicone inserts placed between the bra and the breasts, which can give the same effect as implants, except they are placed outside. These non-surgical breast enhancers are readily available in lingerie stores, and can come at a fraction of surgery.

There are, however, positives and negatives to each. On the upside, non-surgical breast enhancers are cheap and quick to obtain, but can only be effective as long as the bra is on. Surgery, on the other hand, can prove to be a more permanent solution, but like all surgical procedures, there are risks involved, including but not limited to, infection, scarring, and misalignment of the implants.

One safe option that can provide multiple benefits is exercising. Upper body exercises that increase and tighten the pectoral muscles can potentially lift the breasts to a more desirable shape. While this does not make the breasts balloon into a larger cup size, sometimes lifting is all that is needed. These benefits are permanent (as long as exercising is maintained), and, while not easily achieved, are cost and risk free.

Whatever the reason, it’s apparent that NYC plastic surgery is on the rise. Big bank accounts and a need for youthfulness and popularity makes undergoing a cosmetic procedure the only option for some.
