Choosing A Liposuction Surgeon

It’s true that liposuction surgery is not as serious, time consuming and dangerous as other cosmetic surgical procedures, but that doesn’t mean that it is completely safe.  In many cases, the choice of liposuction surgeons to perform the operation is the key to an effective and safe procedure.  There are several things that you should definitely know about liposuction surgeons.

Liposuction surgery is often done in a hospital, but you should know that surgeons are allowed to perform it in other places.  For example, a surgery center, a clinic and the outpatient section of the hospital are all likely venues for liposuction.  In truth. most liposuction procedures are performed by surgeons or dermatologists, but any surgeon can perform liposuction surgery.  The law does not require any special training, requirements or certifications for a doctor to perform liposuction surgery.  This means that your personal results and the effectiveness of the procedure will depend completely on your liposuction surgeon’s experience, skills and abilities.

In addition to being the one who will be suctioning the fat from your body, your liposuction surgeon should also be the person to assess both you and your current health condition as it relates to your liposuction procedure.  He should also be looking at the extent of your fat deposits and the condition of your skin.  Most importantly, your surgeon is the one who must decide which liposuction technique is the best for your condition.  In summary, liposuction surgeons are responsible for determining your condition as a suitable candidate, the safety of each procedure and the necessity of emergency precautions.

Experts will try to minimize the risks, complications and dangers of liposuction surgery, stating that it is normally a quite safe procedure with statistically very few actual casualties.  In truth, you could statistically be the rare one in a million casualty if you’re being treated by an incompetent or untrained liposuction surgeon.  Such accidents as organ punctures, tissue injury, chemical toxicity and excessive bleeding can and do happen.

Here are some tips and advice for you to help select the best surgeon to perform your liposuction surgery:

  • A good surgeon will have a clean clinic to conduct liposuction surgery.  Reputable liposuction surgeons are not hesitant to give you a complete tour of their facilities as well as giving you explanations about the equipment they will use in the liposuction procedure.  The clinic should also be close to an emergency medical facility in case of an emergency.  If in doubt about your surgeon, find a new surgeon in a reputable hospital or medical facility.
  • Learn everything you can about the liposuction surgery you’re considering.  You may never understand the procedure as well as your surgeon, but your knowledge will help you ask the right questions about the liposuction procedure.
  • Don’t just latch onto the first liposuction surgeon you talk to.  It’s best to consult with several different surgeons before deciding on the best one for you.  It’s best if you can actually get a few good recommendations from qualified people that you trust.  Your family surgeon is one person who may have some suggestions about how to find and choose the best surgeons to perform liposuction surgery.
  • Do a background check on your chosen liposuction surgeon’s history and qualifications.  Even though any surgeon may perform liposuction surgery, common sense says that it is best to choose a licensed surgeon.  He should at the very least be a graduate of an accredited medical school and be certified by surgical organizations.  He should also have some dedicated training and experience with liposuction techniques.

I had horrible results from smart lipo which have caused me to incur an additional $20,000 to fix (reconstructive surgery). While I am sure many people have excellent results, the key to good results is the physician performing the procedure, the laser itself. Moreover, one should take care in choosing the right liposuction surgeon as it is the most important part of the liposuction surgery.
