Does Laser Lipo Reduce Liposuction Risks?
There are many advantages that laser liposuction offers over traditional methods of liposuction surgery. One of the most important aspects is the significant reduction across various types of risks. Despite being considered a relatively safe procedure as plastic surgeries go, laser liposuction is still a surgical procedure and the general surgical risks still apply. The good news is that with the improvement in precision and accuracy the risks and degrees of severity are significantly reduced. This also aids in the patient’s recovery making it a relatively quick and painless healing process.
The most common surgical risks include excessive blood loss, scaring, bruising, or infection to the incision area. Since laser liposuction uses smaller equipment and the incision is smaller the risk of infection is already much smaller. The increased precision means less damage to surrounding tissue including blood vessels so there is a lot less bleeding and bruising from the surgery.
Since laser lipo removes fat at small amounts at a time this means it is rare for a surgeon to accidently remove too much fat at one time. Once fat cells are removed from the body it is gone forever. By removing too much fat from one area it can cause the dimples and grooves known as skin irregularities. This is because fat under the skin is what helps smooth the skin over the muscle fibers and skin irregularities is one of the liposuction risks that occur more frequently than it should.
Another area of risk is in the administration anesthesia. This is the numbing agent used for any surgical procedure and is actually a source of risk that requires much careful consideration. Patients of laser liposuction only require local anesthesia so that they remain awake during the procedure. This adds another level of safety because it keeps the line of communication open between patient and surgeon in case there is any unusual discomfort. Traditional liposuction require general anesthesia to fully sedate the patient. This is just another way laser liposuction reduces the risk of liposuction surgery.
