Breast Lift Scars and Proper Care

Many women who are considering enhancement surgery have a lot of concern around any breast augmentation scars that they will have to deal with following the surgery.  This is a very real concern and they are smart to do the research before the surgery so they go into it with very realistic expectations.  This will typically make for a much happier and satisfied patient on the other end of the surgery.

The amount of scar tissue that you will be dealing with post surgery will depend greatly on the type of surgery that you elect to have.  There are basically four different procedures that are done today.  You can insert the implant through incisions under the breast crease, in the nipple, in the armpit or a relatively new surgery that is known as belly button breast augmentation aka TUBA surgery.

The surgery that will produce the most scar tissue and that is, quite frankly, by far the most common surgery is inserting the implant via incisions made under the crease of the breast.  The doctor will make two incisions in the fold where the breast meets the chest.  This site is chosen simply because once the breast has a natural hang to it, then these scars will be hidden by the bulk of the breast.  This theory works fine until a woman is on her back or at certain angles where the scars will be exposed to view.

The good news is that, while scar tissue is inevitable, you can greatly minimize what it will look like over time with proper aftercare and by selecting a good quality surgeon.  Most women report a high level of satisfaction with the way their breasts look, including scar tissue, a year after surgery.   Most of them also reported that they took great pains to properly care for their scar tissue after surgery and followed their doctors instructions implicitly.

We would suggest that you discuss this issue with your doctor and make sure you know what will be required of you post surgery as far as scar care and to let him or her know how important a clean and scar free look is to you.  This may impact the type of surgery that you both agree is the right one for you.  As we said in the beginning, an educated patient typically ends up being a much more satisfied patient in the long run.
