Breast Augmentation Recovery

If you conduct a survey on what most women want to change with their anatomy, chances are, most of them would probably answer, their breasts!  It is incredible how far some women are willing to go, just to have a perfect pair of breasts.  And if the topic is all about breasts, the first thought that springs to mind is breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation or a ‘boob job’ as it is famously called these days, is basically a cosmetic procedure performed to alter the size and shape of a woman’s breast.  The materials used are silicon gel breast implants and saline.  It is performed for aesthetic reasons or for breast reconstructions like after a mastectomy or to correct any chest wall deformities. Off course body enhancement comes at a price but there are some good breast augmentation financing plans available.

Although the procedure does not eat too much of your time, but the recovery process will definitely be time consuming.  Full breast augmentation recovery process can take as long as 3 to 6 months. That is quite a long time, but for some women, it is all worth it.  However, the recovery process depends on the implant placement. You can choose from sub muscular implant placement and sub glandular implant placement. Among the two, sub muscular placement needs a longer resting period, approximately 2-4 days, and heavy lifting (more than 25 pounds) is strictly prohibited for the next 4 weeks post surgery. On the other hand, sub glandular placement will only need 1-2 days of rest. Typically, feelings of discomfort are normal for a few weeks following the surgery.

One of the things that need to be dealt with in breast augmentation recovery process is the pain that is associated with the procedure. Luckily, there are several methods to alleviate pain.  One of the most commonly used methods is ice packs, it is safe to use and side effects free. Cold compressed also help reduce swelling and enhance recovery phase as well. Besides that, it is most likely that you will be given a pain medication prescription.  Elastic bandage or surgical bra is also recommended by most doctors for your breast to bind well with your body.

Part of the breast augmentation recovery phase is surgical drains. Drainage tubes are inserted during surgery for the fluids to drain the fluids away from the surgical site. Thus possible infection is prevented and healing process is improved.

Another worthy of consideration are the scars following the surgery.  These scars are from the incisions made during surgical procedure.  For the first 6 weeks, the scars will appear pink and firm, but it will fade away over the next few months.

When it comes to sleeping positions, avoid sleeping on your stomach, as this will cause pressure on your chest, instead it is better to sleep on your back.

Lastly, showers are off limits for the next few weeks.  In the meantime, be content with sponge bathing while still recovering from breast augmentation procedure.
